The Scintilla Project: Day 5

I’m participating in The Scintilla Project, which is a fortnight of prompts that are meant to remind the participants why they started blogging in the first place.  I’m very excited about this project – I think this is the kickstart I need to start writing here again.  Please be sure to go to the homepage and check out some of the other participants!

Day 5: Talk about a time when you got away with it.

I still feel a bit bad about this.  I don’t know why, exactly – maybe it’s Catholic guilt.  Maybe it’s morals.  Either way, it’s not something I talk about often.

Day 4: What does your everyday look like?  Describe the scene of your happiest moment of every day.

My everyday looks pretty much the same Monday through Friday.  I usually wake up at about 6:00.  Take care of the everyday stuff (shower, hair, dressing), eat a little breakfast, drink my first latte of the day, then grab my lunch and head to work.

Day 3: What’s the story of the most difficult challenge you’ve faced in a relationship? Did you overcome it? What was the outcome?

Oh, this is a good one.

I am currently sitting in Des Moines, IA.  I do not officially live here, though my name is on the lease – I am a Missouri resident.  My official address is in Kansas City.  My husband, the law student, lives in Des Moines.  So our challenge is that for almost two years, we have lived apart.

Now, this is not nearly as bad as military deployments, where spouses do not see each other for a year or more.  But any separation from someone you love is difficult.  When you’re used to spending time together, that first time apart is gut-wrenching.

Day 2: No one does it alone. Write a letter to your rescuer or mentor (be it a person, book, film, record, anything). Share the way they lit up your path.

The first Friday we knew each other, you made us stand on the desks and handed out papers.  We usually listened to music during class, but this song was different.  This was a rite of passage for the seniors, our declaration of independence.  You told us on the first day of the semester that this was going to be the most important class we took.  You were going to teach us HOW to think, to think for ourselves, to see the logical fallacies in arguments and in our own writing.  And this song was the embodiment of everything we were going to learn.

Day 1: Who are you?

According to The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony”, we can “be a million different people from one day to the next”.  Yep, totally believe that.

Adventures in Kansas City: Liberty Memorial

I didn’t feel like going into work today.  (I work in SEC compliance, so this is my busy time.)  I played hooky instead, and the best way I know to do that is to go out with my camera.  I had not been to Liberty Memorial yet, so I took advantage of the beautiful day to get some shots in.
